Sihanouk is considered to be one of the most influential Asians of the 20th century. He led Cambodia in various capacities (as King and Prime Minister) throughout his long political career. Sihanouk spoke several languages. Besides politics he was musician and between 1941 and 2006 Sihanouk produced and directed 50 films.
The small temple Banteay Srei (called the "jewel of Khmer art"), dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva was built by women in 967. It is probably the most beautiful of the temples of Cambodia. The temple is constructed mainly of red sandstone. Its reliefs and sculptures are worked to detail

The building - designed by French architect Jean Desbois -, built between 1935 and 1937, perfectly reflects the "art deco" so prevalent in Europe. The objective was to preserve the goods from the sun and tropical rain as much as possible, using the wind as much as possible to ensure air circulation. The dome is 26 m high and the four wings are 19 m high (enormous, at the time, taking into account the height of nearby buildings). When it was opened it was the largest market in Asia
