Face: Independence (Autonomy) Monument (in Willemstad), boats and fishermen on the beach (St. Eustatius).
The monument was opened by HM Queen Juliana in 1955 during her first visit to the island, as head of state. Six birds interconnected with each other, symbolizing the six islands, including Aruba, decorated with the slogan "Building on its own, but with the desire to help each other."

The coat of arms consists of a shield, a crown and a motto. On the shield there are six blue stars (version till 1986) on a golden background, the shield itself has a red background. The six stars stood for the six islands of the Netherlands Antilles (including Aruba). The crown on the shield is the crown of the Dutch sovereign. Under the shield is a ribbon with the motto "Libertate Unanimus" (United in Freedom)
