Djibouti, officially the Republic of Djibouti, is a country located in the Horn of Africa in East Africa. It is bordered by Somalia in the south, Ethiopia in the south and west, Eritrea in the north, and the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden in the east. The Republic of Djibouti is predominantly inhabited by two ethnic groups, the Somali and the Afar people. Former French Somaliland (later The French Territory of the Afars and the Issas) gained officially its independence from France at the end of June 1977. Djibouti is strategically located near some of the world's busiest shipping lanes, controlling access to the Red Sea and Indian Ocean. Capital: Djibouti.
